The 3D printer and filament have enabled so many opportunities for creativity, fun, and community development! Having this tool has truly been a game changer for our Makerspace class. \r\n\r\nThe students were able to simply have fun at first, designing name plaques for themselves teachers, and fidgets. Once they had a solid grasp of the technology and enjoyed a bit of fun, they expanded to school supports. We are still starting small, only the 6th grade team and with some limitations on designs and size, but so far it has been a great success. Students designed small ring fidgets which could be quickly printed and given to whole classes for Valentine's Day. They designed and printed specialized dice for the math team. They created personalized desk organizers. \r\n\r\nCurrently the students are learning how to convert 2D images into 3D designs. Using this, they are hoping to help provide specialized tools for their teachers. Using this technology, they have already printed cuneiform tablets for social studies and are working on examples of tectonic plate boundaries for science. I have many students who can get overstimulated in the hallway and like to do their math warm up in a quiet space. Also, my students sit in partners but, as middle school peer relationships can be rocky (!), many also appreciate having an alternative seat to choose for a day that they're feuding with their math partner. One student exclaimed, \"Wow, now we can actually play a real game during recess!\" Seeing their smiles and hearing their laughter has been such a rewarding moment for me as a teacher.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the balls, students have been using them to play organized games, practice teamwork, and get some much-needed physical activity. The equipment has not only made recess more fun, but it has also encouraged cooperation, communication, and friendly competition among classmates.\r\n\r\nNext, we plan to incorporate the balls into structured activities during PE and recess, such as small-team challenges and skill-building games. When the boxes arrived, my students were immediately excited and curious. They loved getting an early glimpse of what we'll be exploring and felt proud to be part of setting everything up.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the headphones with microphones, and they've made an immediate impact. Students who rely on speech-to-text and read-aloud tools are now able to participate more independently in reading and writing tasks. I've seen increased focus, confidence, and willingness to share ideas during independent work, which has been incredibly meaningful in our inclusion classroom.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to begin using the science kits as a supplement to our curriculum as we move deeper into our 6th grade science standards. In class, students use them to check their work, explore patterns, and focus on problem-solving instead of getting stuck on basic computation. For students with IEPs, the calculators support accommodations by reducing cognitive load and allowing them to fully participate in grade-level math tasks. This has led to more engagement, better perseverance, and stronger understanding of concepts rather than frustration.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about the calculators is having a reliable, high-quality tool they can use every day. Many students feel more confident raising their hands, attempting challenging problems, and working independently because they trust the calculator to support their learning. Having their own calculator also helps them feel prepared and \"official,\" which increases motivation and pride in their work.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially warmed to this new technology, particularly those who previously struggled with math or anxiety around calculations. Students with IEPs and those who need extra processing time have shown noticeable growth in confidence and participation. With the calculator as a support, these students are more willing to try, explain their thinking, and stay engaged through multi-step problems, making math a more positive and inclusive experience for everyone.","fullyFundedDate":1742907421162,"projectUrl":"project/calculators-for-7th-graders/9194160/","projectTitle":"Calculators for 7th Graders!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Quatrale","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1869850_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1455029549174","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sarahquatrale"},{"teacherId":1869850,"projectId":9406753,"letterContent":"We are using the new resources every day to help students start and stay organized across all subject areas. Having essential supplies like pencils, folders, scissors, colored pencils, and dry erase markers allowed students to fully participate in lessons from day one. A memorable moment was during the first week of school, when students were able to jump right into a math problem-solving activity and an ELA writing task without delays or stress because everyone had the materials they needed and knew where to keep them.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were excited and relieved. Many expressed gratitude and confidence knowing they were prepared for 7th grade and wouldn't have to worry about missing supplies. For some students, this removed a major source of stress and helped them feel more comfortable, included, and ready to learn. The materials also created a sense of equality in the classroom, as all students started the year with the same tools for success.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using these supplies to support ongoing lessons and projects, including multi-step assignments in math and science, writing and revision in ELA and ESL, and interactive note-taking in social studies. These next steps will help students build responsibility, organization, and confidence as they take on more challenging work throughout the year, using the resources provided to stay focused and engaged in their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1755918125813,"projectUrl":"project/start-off-the-year-strong-with-materials/9406753/","projectTitle":"Start Off The Year Strong With Materials!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Quatrale","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1869850_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1455029549174","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sarahquatrale"},{"teacherId":1869850,"projectId":9410520,"letterContent":"We are using the new binder resources every day to help students stay organized and independent across math, science, ELA, ESL, and social studies. One meaningful moment came when students completed a multi-step science lab and were able to find their notes, vocabulary sheets, and data tables quickly because everything was organized in the correct binder section. In math and ELA, students now file warm-ups, guided notes, and practice work in order, which has helped them follow lessons more confidently and review for quizzes without feeling overwhelmed. The binders have become a daily tool for planning, tracking assignments, and reflecting on completed work.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were excited. Some students who usually struggle with organization expressed relief at having a clear system, while others were eager to decorate and personalize their binders to make them their own. Within the first week, students began noticing how much easier it was to transition between classes and stay focused because they weren't searching for lost papers or unsure of what to turn in.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using their binders to support longer-term projects and deeper learning. In social studies and ELA, they are beginning research-based assignments that require note-taking, drafts, and revisions, all of which will be stored and tracked in their binders. In math and science, students are building study guides and reference sections to prepare for upcoming assessments.
