The plants have added a calming, welcoming atmosphere to our classroom, and we've incorporated them into vocabulary lessons, learning the Arabic words for parts of a plant and practicing descriptive language. The snacks have also played a special role, allowing us to explore cultural connections while building a sense of community during shared moments.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and contagious. They eagerly flipped through the letter books, pointing out shapes and sounds they recognized, and were especially thrilled to care for the plants themselves. It meant that my students got to start their year off with the basics they needed to learn and that no student went without. They started the year off simply having all they needed and using the materials as children do. While it would've been exciting to see reactions, I'm glad they don't know a classroom that lacked the things they needed. In fact, I have just submitted a new project for the supplies I didn't realize I would need more of (whiteboard markers and pencils are at the top of that list!)
