They take their seats and look at me wide eyed and with partial smiles. One student shouts out, \" What are we doing today?\". I produce a big grin and tell them we are going to learn about and create abstract art. Their eyes narrow and their smile subsides. I knew this would happen so I proceeded to tell them that we are going to paint with watercolor paints. Their first reaction was to cheer but then students started to interject with \" I don't know how\", and \"What is water paint?\". And so the lesson began.\r\n\r\n\r\n As I began to pass out supplies the anticipation and excitement grew, they could hardly contain themselves. When I finally gave them the go ahead to start painting, they proceeded cautiously. As they continued to paint, I began to notice they became braver and experimented with the paint. When a student discovered they made a new color, they shared the magical recipe with everyone at their table. When someone from another table overheard this new discovery, they wanted to discover their own color and share it with people at their table. It became infectious and the excitement over using the watercolor paints grew.\r\n\r\n\r\n I am so thankful that I received the help from the donors so I could acquire these watercolor paints. Watercolor is a great medium to use with kindergarteners because it mixes well, dries quickly and there are many colors in a single watercolor pallet for them to experiment with. I look forward to using them with my older kids because there are so many more techniques and ways to explore and experiment with watercolor paint that you just can't with other paints.\r\n\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support for my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1775621629174,"projectUrl":"project/watercolors-for-color-theory/10139615/","projectTitle":"Watercolors for Color Theory","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wallace","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9443952"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61247","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":446,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":56,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.4,"schoolId":61247,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Parker Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Parker Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/billerica-public-schools/parker-elementary-school/61247"}
