Students read independently, in small groups, and as a whole class. They discuss ideas with peers, ask questions, and support their thinking with evidence from the book. I model strategies such as predicting, questioning, and summarizing, then students practice those strategies on their own. Reading is not just about finishing a book! They enjoyed learning how to code them and were able to utilize coding lessons in class to help them with the rovers. We collected information from the robot's sensors and graphed data that we collected. We programmed the robots to follow a set of commands that made them move forward, turn, and move backward all while gathering data.
