Because of your kindness, we were able to order refills for our simulated blood, blood type testing kits, and measuring tape. These supplies will be used to provide meaningful learning opportunities for my students in forensic science. \r\n As a teacher, my goal is to not only provide students with academic learning, but to engage them with hands-on experience that connect the learning content to real-world applications. Thanks to your support, my students have more opportunities to participate in more realistic, interactive activities that bring science to life. One of the things I love about teaching forensics is that I can elicit surprise and awe from students. Students for whom I do not teach look into my classroom, see my students carrying out labs and explorations, and look forward to taking the class in the future. Being able to have hands-on experiences provides kids with excitement for school. What I also love is that the learning gained from experiences I can give because of these resources has led some students to have interest in exploring science as a future career option.\r\n On behalf of myself and my students, thank you for helping to make these activities possible. When a teenager discovers a love of reading, they often share that excitement—recommending titles to friends, discussing stories with family, and modeling engaged literacy for younger siblings. They become ambassadors for the idea that reading isn't just something you have to do for school, but something worth doing for yourself.\r\nThese books will circulate for years, passing through dozens or even hundreds of hands. While the policy seems to be reducing distractions, it is more difficult for students to easily document their work to submit online. Have the scanner has helped to fill this gap. \r\n\r\nIt has been exciting to teach students not only how to use the scanning feature, but also seeing their reaction when they look at the quality of the image after scanning. With students using their phones and web cameras on laptops and Chromebooks in the past, images often including student faces or other unnecessary items in the background. The scanning feature has provided better quality images be it solely focused on what is important: the student's work. Another benefit of having the scanner is being able to teach students about the filing system on their computers. The plug their USB drives into the front of the printer and scanned directly to it. Providing instruction about filenames and how to access what they have scanned when plugging their USB drives into their own laptops or Chromebooks has been rewarding for me as this seems to be a lost art.","fullyFundedDate":1746551383162,"projectUrl":"project/a-blueprint-for-the-future/9254561/","projectTitle":"A Blueprint for the Future","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Watson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2953165_orig.jpg?crop=2394,2395,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756323134668","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2953165"},{"teacherId":8564313,"projectId":9027178,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generous funding I received, I've been able to transform the way I support my students across all five of my classes. I can now project material on the board for the whole class while also conferencing one-on-one with students at their desks. Students are benefiting from more personalized support, while the rest of the class remains engaged with the projected lesson content.\r\n\r\nHaving printing access directly in the classroom has also been a game-changer. I can now provide students with printed materials as the need arises—whether it's graphic organizers, model essays, or additional practice texts. This immediacy has made instruction more adaptive and responsive, cutting down on wasted time and ensuring that all students have what they need to succeed in the moment.\r\n\r\nOverall, the funding has made my classroom more efficient, supportive, and student-centered. Since phones are not allowed during the school day, their only other option would have been to do all the calculations by hand, which can be discouraging and slow down the learning process. Having access to the calculators gives them a sense of independence and confidence, and it allows them to focus on the science itself rather than just the math behind it.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given them a valuable tool that makes their lab work smoother, their learning deeper, and their enthusiasm for science even greater. My student Destiny actually said \"Finally, a chair that won't dump me on the floor!\" during our app development session. We're working on a semester project where kids design mobile apps to tackle Baltimore community issues, and having stable seating has been a game-changer for our intense 90-minute coding marathons - no more constant shifting, standing up, or propping against walls.\r\n\r\nThe difference during our recent hackathon day was incredible. Students could actually focus on debugging their apps instead of worrying about furniture collapsing under them. Marcus, who's building a neighborhood safety app, told me he could finally think through complex algorithms without chair-related drama interrupting his flow. The new seating has honestly transformed our whole classroom vibe - students feel respected and can pour their energy into the actual work instead of battling basic comfort issues.\r\n\r\nWe're gearing up for our spring showcase where students present their apps to Baltimore community leaders and local tech mentors. The hot glue and organizational labels streamlined our workflow dramatically, allowing students to focus on innovation rather than hunting for materials. Unlike traditional programming where students work with abstract concepts on screens, the 3D printer has revolutionized how they approach their robotics projects - they now design custom enclosures for Arduino systems, print functional gears for automated mechanisms, and create prototypes that bridge the gap between coding and real-world engineering. My student Marcus, who previously struggled to visualize how his programming translated to physical movement, recently designed and printed a custom servo mount for his automated pet feeder project, experiencing multiple design iterations that taught him the true engineering design process.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is the immediate feedback loop between their digital designs and physical prototypes. Students like Aaliyah have become passionate about parametric design, spending lunch periods refining variables in her code to create perfectly fitted components for her metro card reader project. The printer has sparked natural collaborations where students form design teams - one handling electronics programming while another focuses on mechanical design - mirroring how professional engineering teams actually work. As we prepare for their College Board AP performance tasks, students will design and print custom robotics components that demonstrate both programming skills and engineering creativity, giving my scholars from low-income households access to the same rapid prototyping capabilities used at top engineering firms.","fullyFundedDate":1746556214107,"projectUrl":"project/technovation-zone-empowering-creativity/9185422/","projectTitle":"Technovation Zone: Empowering Creativity With 3D Printers, Part 2!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Massey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6562703_orig.png?crop=880,880,x0,y81&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743041557989","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-massey-codes"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64406","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1632,"numTeachers":79,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":58,"percentWhite":19,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.7,"schoolId":64406,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Baltimore Polytechnic Institute 403 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Baltimore Polytechnic Institute 403","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/baltimore-city-public-school-district/baltimore-poly-tech-inst-403/64406"}
