The Scholastic News and Science Spin magazines provide accessible, engaging nonfiction reading that helps my students build background knowledge, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and science knowledge while connecting learning to the real world.\r\n\r\nThe art supplies, crayons, markers, paintbrushes, glue, and pencils are used throughout our daily instruction and give students opportunities to practice fine-motor skills, express their creativity, and demonstrate their learning through hands-on projects. For my students with special needs, having plentiful materials available means they can participate in classroom activities without having to wait or worry about sharing limited supplies.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have also been especially helpful for students who benefit from reduced distractions and individualized access to digital learning activities. This allows students to work more independently and at their own pace.\r\n\r\nEven the snacks have had an important impact. Having small classroom snacks available helps support students who may become distracted by hunger and allows them to feel comfortable, regulated, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these materials have helped create a classroom where my students have the resources they need to participate, take risks, be creative, and experience success. I was ecstatic to see how excited they were to view nature. Every day, many of my students ask me when we can go back to the field to \"look around.\" We also used magnifying glasses to look at beach \"treasure\" for our Coastal Curiosities science lesson. I live near a beach and brought in shells, driftwood, a fish tooth, seagull feathers, etc for the class to look at, draw and write about. Some of the students brought in beach treasures of their own, to share with the class. \r\n\r\nI wouldn't have been able to have these tools available if it wasn't for your donation.
