Students shared their science learning with each other and with their grade level peers. They also had the opportunity to speak with administration including the district Superintendent and building principal.\r\n\r\nStudents enjoyed taking ownership of their finished products. My students were able to use the resources you helped supply to build and decorate their \"Penguin Houses\". These houses are built out of a main structure of cardboard and then can be insulated with various supplies including felt, cotton balls, aluminum foil, and mylar.\r\n\r\nStudents built their houses to try and prevent penguin ice cubes from melting. It was part of our thermal energy, heat, transfer unit. Students design and create scaled drawings of their plan. They are given a $400 budget and must \"purchase\" materials to build their houses. The best insulators cost premium price. Having supplies available for students makes completing work much easier. Students used the calculators for science labs as well as during our response to learning time. They still use the calculators on a regular basis. Having markers, rulers, calculators, all the essentials makes learning so much easier and seamless. It save time and allows myself and students to engage on a deeper level with the learning when you don't have to worry about not having materials you need.\r\n\r\nIt is through donations and the generosity of others that teachers are able to provide the experiences that change students lives to them.
