These material will help my students gain exposure to fiction reading sources while making real world connections. The book I would like to read with my class discusses the solace that being in the woods brings to a young character. It also identifies the struggles low income families feel and the willingness of a parent to adapt to help the family even if it means sacrificing the one thing that truly bring peace to their child. My students will recognize the struggles and the triumphs in "The End of the Wild" by author Nicole Helget. "If you cut down a forest, it doesn't matter how many sawmills you have if there are no more trees" - Susan George Our science curriculum has built to this potential throughout the year and the story will make a good conclusion to how human impact is effecting our Earth as a system. It also will allow students to make a deeper connection through similar scenes that they see in their Maine woods each day.
