The boxes of books kept coming and my classroom felt like a Christmas morning for a whole week. The kids feverishly opened the boxes and laughed in excitement showing each other what they had found in the boxes. I had to intervene between two 7th graders that were having a playful argument about who needed to read Herry Potter in Spanish first.\r\n\r\nI made a mistake while uploading the pictures — I pressed the button too soon and ended up submitting only two pictures. I contacted DonorsChoose to see if I could fix my mistake, but I was informed that once I submitted the photos I could not go back. Therefore, I will share some favorite moments I captured: five seventh-grade boys gathered around a book in Spanish; two eighth-grade girls smiling when they realized a title I listed was the one they'd asked for; and a sixth grader, away from the frenzy, sitting crisscross on a table reading the book she had been waiting for.\r\n\r\nWe made bookmarks, and now we read for the first fifteen minutes of every class. Once a month they take a short assessment about the book they are reading so I can check comprehension, track vocabulary growth, and plan what they need next.\r\n\r\nI am also thankful for the whiteboard markers and the Play‑Doh. I tell my students that Spanish verbs are like Play‑Doh: the infinitive is the basic form and from that one can shape it as needed to communicate. \r\n\r\n People who believe in giving books, in learning languages, and in educating kids give me hope for the future. Therefore, I sincerely thank you in my students' name and in my name. Your generosity has already made a big difference—students are more excited about reading and sharing books with one another. Thank you for supporting our classroom and helping foster a love of learning.","fullyFundedDate":1776211871278,"projectUrl":"project/spanish-immersion-library/10121393/","projectTitle":"Spanish Immersion Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bassani Moraes Byrd","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9780787"},{"teacherId":1948412,"projectId":9422121,"letterContent":"Thank you very much for these headphones. Also, when we do Read Works assignments students who are still fine tuning their reading skills can listen along so that they don't miss any tricky vocabulary words.
