We work hard every day to teach our students self-regulation skills for them to be successful in a less restrictive environment. We have created individual toolboxes for each student for them to access when they are dysregulated or when a classmate might be. Each day our students become more confident in their abilities to take breaks when frustrated by using their toolboxes. One way to help continue our students' success in creating a calm, quiet, learning environment would be to have access to materials that promote calm. An identified need in our classroom would be the ability to visually see when the voice level is getting to an uncomfortable level. When students struggle with big emotions it can impact the classroom environment. Our goal is to have each student understand how they impact our learning environment and what they may be able to do to help keep it a calm learning space. We are asking for three resources for our classroom. The first being a Yacker Tracker. This red, yellow, green voice level monitor will allow our students to understand when their big emotions might be affecting the learning environment. This visual tool will show students when they might need to access their toolbox or take a break in a different space. The two other materials would help students who are trying to continue to learn, to stay on track. The marble fidget and headphones help to keep students focused on tasks while others learn to access self-regulation strategies.
