This is my 13th year teaching and the first time I have ever had enough storage space for my independent reading library. The new bookshelves have truly transformed the space, creating an inviting and organized environment where students can explore a wide variety of books.\r\n\r\nFor my 9th graders, having a well-organized library is more than just a functional change—it's a way for them to have easy access to books that could spark their love of reading. I have seen an increase in students wanting to select their own books this year. With the new cell phone books, students are spending more time with books in their hands and it truly a beautiful thing. \r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. The transformation that the whiteboard and new periodic table made on my classroom aesthetic was instantaneous, but the impact on my students' learning is growing each day, not to mention how happy it makes me to have these critical tools at my disposal.\r\n\r\nPrior to having a place to write the standard and learning target, it was difficult for my students to articulate what they were learning. Now when they walk into the room, the learning target is there for all to see and to focus their attention. This project was fully funded within 4 days! With your help, my classroom is now completely furnished with new furniture that is inclusive and flexible for students. \r\n\r\nWith this funding I ended up getting getting more than I had originally planned! My classroom got one adjustable height table, 5 tall chairs, four regular chairs, 10 adjustable foot rests, and hundreds of pencils! (We always need pencils.)Now, when students come to class they are able to choose and area to work where they feel comfortable and welcome. They are not restricted to traditional desks that are often restricitve. \r\n\r\nMany students prefer the adjustable height table because I have it set as tall as it will go, and they can choose to stand and work rather than having to sit down. The adjustable foot rests allow students to have correct seating posture or they allow for them to fidget while sitting. The regular chairs allow for more flexibility with the furniture I received from my school district. \r\n\r\nThank you for supporting me, my current students, and my future students!","fullyFundedDate":1727206713265,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-welcoming-classroom-environme/8807574/","projectTitle":"Creating a Welcoming Classroom Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lawler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2836269_orig.jpg?crop=2127,2127,x0,y493&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726837371685","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-lawler"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58219","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1197,"numTeachers":70,"percentFrplEligible":63,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":39,"percentWhite":35,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.1,"schoolId":58219,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jeffersontown High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jeffersontown High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/jefferson-county-public-schools/jeffersontown-high-magnet-school/58219"}
