I work at a Title I, persistently low achieving school. The majority of my students live in poverty and are below grade level in reading, but these labels shouldn't have to define the trajectory of my students' lives. My students work hard. Many of my students have jobs after school so that they can help support their families. Many of my students take care of their siblings or nieces and nephews. My students have a lot of autonomy outside of school, but then when they come to school they have to sit and listen for most of the day. I provide all of the physical materials that my students need so that when they come to my class everyone is set up for success. I provide folders, paper, pencils, books, etc., but I cannot provide them computer access every day. My school added seventh and eighth graders this year, so there are fewer resources to go around.
