It is slowly paying off. We have gone from lessons breaking down within the first five minutes to a full hour lesson where most of the class shares. I have used the conversation cubes over the past several weeks and they are great ice-breakers. The students are now able to work in groups. After the presentation, students built their own winter car emergency kits to keep on hand, including hat & gloves, thermal and fleece blankets, chapstick, snacks, flashlights, and snow brush/scrapers. \r\n\r\nStudents were excited when they saw the items laid out before them knowing they would receive a practical backpack to take as a reminder of what they learned in the classroom. By connecting knowledge to real world applications, students are more likely to retain the information when needed most. This activity quickly highlighted the importance of winter car safety as students shared they did not have ice scrapers. Some responses were \"Now I don't have to use a credit card to scrape ice!\" and \"this will be so much better than trying to use an old shirt from my trunk!\".
