These resources have helped students visualize the relationships between tissues, organs, and body systems, making complex concepts more concrete and easier to apply to real-world medical situations.\r\nBecause of the materials provided, I have been able to incorporate more hands-on investigations, anatomical models, laboratory activities, and clinical-style learning experiences into my instruction. Students are able to analyze structures, make connections between anatomy and physiology, collaborate with classmates, and apply what they are learning to health-care and disease scenarios. These experiences have increased student engagement while also helping prepare students who are interested in careers in medicine, nursing, physical therapy, athletic training, and other health-related fields.\r\nI am extremely grateful to the Olathe Public Schools Foundation for investing in our students and helping provide learning opportunities that would otherwise be difficult to offer within a traditional classroom budget. The write-on Earth globes and dry-erase markers, will allow students to understand and learn in a hands on way the way the sun impacts the Earth and biodiversity. We will also be setting up our butterfly enclosures, allowing my students to observe real-life life cycles up close. Students will record daily observations. These really help the students express their creativity and develop their design skills. They are also helpful for students to learn techniques (like sgraffito) which cannot be done with traditional glazes. \r\n\r\nAbout half of our projects throughout the year are functional pieces, and traditional glazes work really well to make these pieces food safe. On the other hand, the other half of our projects are more sculptural in nature. While traditional glazes will work on those projects, the underglazes that you helped us purchase often work much better for the end product that students envision. This is because underglazes will not melt in the kiln, so they stay right where students paint them. It was such a joy reading through the book with them, each taking a different role and figuring out what was going on while doing a super fun read-through.\r\n\r\nThe story of \"Cyrano de Bergerac\" is something most of us can relate to--lacking confidence in declaring one's love for fear of rejection. Yet, Cyrano's poetry is true music to the ears. My students loved reading and interpreting what his words meant, even when the passages seemed long and dry. This book became a wonderful way to link my students to the poetic artistry of Edmond Rostand. \r\n\r\nAfter reading the book, we watched the movie version from 1990. I stopped the movie from time to time to go back to the book and reread sections that had been acted out. This was truly unforgettable. What a wonderful time we had with this novel. We had lively discussions about the different chapters, and each student took their turn describing their thoughts on the book's events. \r\n\r\nObviously, reading is a super important skill, but reading in a foreign language is a bit different. Do you stop at every unfamiliar word and look it up, or do you continue to read despite knowing the full meaning of each word? Everyone has their own style that works for them. What is really cool is saying that you've read an entire book in a foreign language. Not everyone can say that. My students build literacy skills, and they can take pride in accomplishing something that not everyone gets to do. \r\n\r\nI plan on sharing this novel with this coming year's advanced class as well. Seeing their eyes light up when they realized these materials were specifically for them was a powerful moment that reinforced how much our community supports their education.\r\n\r\nCurrently, we are using these resources to dive deeper into our hands-on curriculum. For example, during a recent project, students were able to transition from theoretical concepts to practical application seamlessly because they finally had the high-quality materials required to explore the subject fully. Watching them collaborate and solve problems using these new tools has been the highlight of my week. It has transformed our classroom environment into a more dynamic and interactive space where every student feels equipped to succeed.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are moving into the next phase of our current unit, where students will use these materials to design and present their own independent findings. This project will challenge them to apply everything they've learned so far in a creative way.
