These are different accounts of historical events and put the students in the place of a person who was actually experiencing the events. Students have all that they need right in front of them to be able to participate in our UFLI lesson! We use the magnetic phonemes (sounds) to build and manipulate words. We use the writing area to practice writing letters and words. While being a new reader can cause students to feel disconnected from their class, these kits help them know that what they are doing is special and important! They are excited to come to small reading group every day to use these kits to learn! Because of your generous donations, many students are learning to read better! I have colored coded my shelves using the color baskets. My students put their tables workbooks in one basket. Crayons, dry erase markers and erasers, and markers each go in a pocket of our color caddies. Glue sticks and scissors go in a small basket on the shelves and each shelf is color coordinated. I used the dot stickers to label the kids workbooks using the same color as their baskets.
