My teaching style is highly interactive and for students to get the most out of instruction they need to be actively listening and ready to engage with me and each other. I like to have them all seated on a classroom carpet together several times per day but I do not have a carpet for them to sit on comfortably and with their own personal space. This carpet will give them an assigned space to sit in during instruction where they can focus on the lesson, the teacher and the ideas of one another. A classroom rug also allows my class to easily "turn and talk" to their partner throughout the lesson. I can also listen in during several conversations and be more prepared to address misconceptions or share out great ideas. We will also frequently sit on this carpet in a circle to discuss read aloud books in depth or model how the Earth orbits the sun among many other things! This is not a decoration, it is a key piece of my instruction that I want to provide.
