These items and materials will help my students self-regulate themselves and learn coping strategies. Using scooters to get their bottled up energy out will allow them to better concentrate in class. Having a safe area to go to that is welcoming, with bean bags and fidgets and heavy pressure items, will allow them to practice their coping strategies and calm themselves. Research shows that movement breaks, quiet spaces, and deep pressure activities help students in self-regulation of their emotions. These items will provide the opportunities to do this and give them a safe space for them to learn. This will help them control their emotions effectively and to form meaningful relationships with friends.
