The supplies you provided have helped make that possible.\r\n\r\nBuilding Thinking Classrooms is designed to get students out of their seats, thinking, discussing, collaborating, and solving problems together. Instead of simply watching me demonstrate how to solve a problem, students are given opportunities to struggle productively, share ideas, make mistakes, revise their thinking, and explain their reasoning to one another.\r\n\r\nThe dry erase markers and erasers have been especially important because students regularly work at vertical whiteboards around the classroom. Having enough markers means students can immediately begin representing their ideas without worrying about running out of supplies. The marker holders help keep our materials organized and accessible, while the Post-it notes give students another way to record, move, compare, and communicate their mathematical thinking. Even the pencils have helped ensure that students have the basic tools they need to participate fully.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, I have seen a difference in my students' willingness to try, discuss, and persevere.
