I wanted to share a few updates on how everything is already making a difference in the classroom.\r\n\r\nI have placed most of the materials in the calm corner for students to use when they need a moment to calm down, regulate, and redirect. I am planning to rotate the stuffed animals so that there is one available at a time. I think this will help keep the space from feeling overwhelming when students enter the corner while also keeping the materials fresh and interesting.\r\n\r\nI am still working on a system for the wiggle seats that will allow students to use them while causing the fewest interruptions to instruction. I have enough for all of the students who would like one, and they have already been amazing! They give our wiggly students a safe way to sit while helping them redirect some of their energy and stay engaged.\r\n\r\nI am also developing a system for the headphones so that they are primarily used to support students with sensory needs rather than becoming a toy or distraction. They have already come in handy, though, especially when we were playing instruments as a class!\r\n\r\nThe calm corner has even caught the attention of several third graders. I have received lots of comments from students who are excited to see the materials and amazed by the number of wiggle seats and headphones available.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping make these resources possible. I hope to continue adapting my classroom to make it as welcoming and supportive as possible for students with different energy levels and sensory needs. The new resonator bells have been added to the bells we already had, giving our 2nd and 3rd grade students more opportunities to learn and practice.\r\n\r\nRight now, our students are using the resonator bells to accompany a song called \"Here Comes a Bluebird\". The 3rd graders are playing a simplified version of the melody, giving them a chance to build confidence and develop their musical skills.\r\n\r\nOur 2nd graders will play the bells later this week and learn a very simple song using just three notes. The main goals of this lesson are to practice self-control, learn how to properly play the bells, and begin building confidence with melody instruments.\r\n\r\nWe will use the bells for full-class lessons as well as music centers, helping students learn to play melodies and grow as young musicians. We used them in music centers earlier in the school year. We will use them in other play along activities in the spring.
