Your generosity has already begun to make a meaningful difference for our youngest learners, ages 3–5. We are so excited to see where this journey takes us throughout the school year!\r\n\r\nPretend play is so much more than simply \"playing.\" It gives children opportunities to build language, practice social skills, problem-solve, take on different perspectives, and learn how to play and communicate with others. Through pretend play, children can explore the world around them in a way that feels natural, engaging, and fun.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun putting our new materials to work! We kicked off our year with by using the ice cream truck, where students across each of our preschool classrooms had opportunities to become \"workers\" and \"customers.\" Students practiced ordering ice cream, taking turns, communicating with one another, and using their imaginations — all while having a lot of fun!\r\n\r\nWhat started as pretend play in our classrooms even grew into our first family engagement event of the school year at our local ice cream shop. Students were able to take the skills and excitement from their classroom play and experience them in a real-world setting with their families. It was such a special way to connect classroom learning, play, and family involvement.\r\n\r\nThis is just the beginning of what we hope to create with \"Let's Pretend.\" Throughout the year, our students will have opportunities to pretend to be chefs, grocery store workers, community helpers, and so much more. Each new theme will give them another opportunity to imagine, communicate, cooperate, and learn through play.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create these meaningful experiences for our preschoolers.
