Because of your support, our after school Yoga Club is now equipped with 30 brand-new yoga mats!\r\n\r\nOur school is located in an underserved community in Chicago. Our students often struggle with stress, high energy, or difficulty focusing due to a variety of factors including ADHD. Many have experienced trauma and these are some of the effects. Some of the students who participate in the yoga class after school also have a learning disability and receive special education services. These yoga mats provide more than just a place to stretch; they create a dedicated \"safe space\" for my students to practice mindfulness, breathing exercises, and physical movement. They have often said how the class has helped them relax and that they enjoy coming. There are always at least 1-2 students who fall asleep during class and I allow them to take the opportunity to do so. \r\n\r\nThe impact of your gift:\r\n\r\nPhysical Wellness: Students now have a clean, comfortable surface to develop their motor skills, flexibility, and balance.\r\n\r\nEmotional Regulation: We are using these mats for meditations, sharing or feelings, and yoga, which allow students a place for emotional regulation and nervous system regulations as well. \r\n\r\nInclusivity: Many of my students didn't have access to this kind of equipment at home, and now they can participate fully in our wellness activities. They are provided with modifications and modeling to allow them to access the Asana sequence. \r\n\r\nSeeing the students' faces light up as they unrolled their very own mats for the first time was a highlight of our year. Each student was assigned a mat and they feel responsible for it. The wipes allow us to clean them after every session so that they are ready for the next. Your investment in their health and happiness means the world to us.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for making our Yoga Club a more peaceful, productive place to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1762655010496,"projectUrl":"project/yoga-for-3rd-graders/9877655/","projectTitle":"Yoga for 3rd Graders!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Saldaña","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10342730_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762428177941","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10342730"},{"teacherId":7493321,"projectId":9448453,"letterContent":"My student absolutely loves our colorful and inviting carpet in our classroom. My 4th graders are learning about fractions so I thought this would be a great place to start. One specific project I undertook involved designing and cutting colorful fraction circles. \r\n Each student was tasked with assembling their own fraction sets, which allowed them to visualize and make fractions through hands-on learning.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the fraction materials I created with the Cricut Maker, their eyes lit up with excitement! They were eager to pick them up, explore how the pieces fit together, and even engage in discussions about what they represented. The immediate engagement created enthusiasm for learning about fractions! \r\n\r\nAs we continue our lesson on fractions, the next steps involve a series of interactive activities. Students will use the fraction circles to create their own fraction problems and challenge their classmates. They will work in pairs to explain how they arrived at their answers using the fraction materials as visual aids. This not only reinforces their understanding of the concepts but also builds their communication skills. After this, I plan to expand our use of the Cricut Maker into phonics of building CVC words.\r\n\r\nThanks to the generous contributions from you, we have enhanced our learning environment and made abstract concepts like fractions more tangible and relatable for the 4th grade students. I can't wait to share more of our journey as we continue exploring mathematics and language arts with these exciting resources!","fullyFundedDate":1737065458322,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-individualized-learning-throug/9047026/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Individualized Learning through Cricut Maker for Special Education Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Patel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9841545_orig.jpg?crop=927,927,x231,y223&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736528877447","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lauren-patel"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5805","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":433,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":96,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.5,"schoolId":5805,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about McCormick Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"McCormick Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/mccormick-elementary-school/5805"}
