We are developing 'global citizens' by exploring the world around us through literature. I am the librarian in a high needs, 95% Hispanic elementary school in Chicago, IL. My students are interested in learning more about the world around them. Recently a group of students read an inspiring fiction book about a girl's struggles with a physical disability. The students absolutely loved reading this book and keep asking for similar books in the library. Adding more books with characters of disability to the library encourages our global citizens to learn and accept everyone regardless of their gender, race, religion or ability!!
