Thanks to your involvement, we were able to purchase the essential drawing tools which included drawing pencils, colored pencils and colorless blenders. Because of this, you played a key role in the drawing skills my Art 1 students obtained this year. This year, we were able to learn how to draw self portraits by learning the proportions of a face and then adjusting that foundational sketch to look more like themselves. It was a long journey of observational drawing and well worth it! Students were shocked by their ability to not only draw but to also shade in their work with the drawing pencil kits every student got with your donations. In my Art 2 class, students had a blast learning how to PROPERLY use colored pencils and got a few lessons on blending. Those beautiful colored pencil kits were perfect for helping students learn how to mix their own color variations while also creating experimentational self portraits, as well as working on our newest unit of creating thematic sticker packs. In our sticker unit, students were able to choose their own unique theme and create original sticker designs by using the colored pencils to their highest saturation. Their original designs stayed safe in their sketchbooks, as they learned how to upload them for mass production onto a sticker template. These sticker packs were then shared with other students, friends, and family. Because who doesn't love a sticker?! Thank you for providing these foundational materials! While they may seem ordinary, it's the imagination that transforms these tools into its fullest potential. For my Art 2 class, students had a great time learning about the reduction technique as they learned how to create different colorful stamps out of one surface and then print editions of their unique and personalized ideas. Along with those materials, know that you also donated towards acrylic pen markers that were extremely helpful for some individual students that needed an alternative to painting with a brush. It was because of you that those teens were able to follow alongside their peers with these modified tools during our Artist Study Painting Unit.
