At first, it was an expected surprise. Later, it became something to look forward to.\r\n\r\nEach goodie bag contained a snack, a fun note, and either a stress ball, a calming strip, or a positive vibes sticker. The intent was to acknowledge the students' efforts and possible testing anxiety; to make them feel seen as individuals with emotions, and not just subjects of testing. With each goodie bag given out, the little smile, the \"thanks, miss,\" and the effort to get just the right snack or sticker, showed me that I had succeeded in this!\r\n\r\nOne of the ELA teachers told me that the Seniors were jealous that the Juniors had snacks when they returned to class. There was a lot of excitement, especially from students who had never used a sewing machine before. As we unpacked the Brother sewing machine, thread, needles, and supplies, students were already talking about which feed bags from our school farm would make the best chicken holder bags. It was really rewarding to watch them see \"farm waste\" as something useful and creative instead of something to throw away.\r\n\r\nSince then, students have been learning how to trace patterns, cut materials, and sew their first practice pieces together. There have definitely been a few crooked seams and plenty of laughter along the way, but that has honestly been part of the fun. One student proudly held up a finished piece and said, \"We actually made this ourselves!\" Moments like that remind me why hands-on learning matters so much. The students are gaining confidence while learning practical skills they can use far beyond this project.\r\n\r\nWhat I appreciate most is how naturally this project connects creativity, agriculture, sustainability, and teamwork. Students are not just sewing bags — they are solving problems, learning patience, and creating something useful for our chickens and school farm. The technology, mental health affirmations, and wellness reminders you funded have made a profound, daily impact on my students' post-secondary career exploration and emotional well-being. \r\n\r\nMy students are highly visual learners, and the new technology has completely transformed how they research their futures. Having access to large, clear monitors allowed them to step away from crowding around my small laptop screen. Instead, they could easily open multiple tabs, compare colleges and advanced training programs side-by-side, and digest important information without having to strain their eyes. This extra screen space made the daunting task of navigating post-secondary opportunities engaging, clear, and truly accessible. My students were so excited about this upgrade, and they deeply appreciated having tools that made them feel invested in.\r\n\r\nEqually impactful were the mental health affirmations and wellness reminders. These items are posted around my room, sit on my table tops, and have quickly become a hit for both students and staff. Students will often stop by to read them, seeking a positive boost to start their school day, as others seek them when they need positive reminders about themselves. \r\n\r\nYour kindness did not just fund items on a checklist; you provided my students with the tools to dream bigger and the emotional support to face their days with confidence. My students have been learning how to safely mix and pour resin, add decorative elements such as glitter and dried flowers, and properly cure their projects using the UV lights. One of our favorite classroom projects has been designing personalized keychains and earrings that reflect each student's personality and interests. They were also able to create gifts for family members and for their favorite teachers. They also collaborated and created special keychains for our Custodians, security, admin and many staff members. Students took great pride in creating unique pieces that they could wear, gift to family members, or display proudly.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their reactions were filled with excitement and curiosity. Many immediately began sharing ideas about what they wanted to create and were eager to experiment with the different molds and decorations. The UV curing lights especially fascinated them because they could instantly see the resin harden and transform into finished products. One memorable moment was watching students who are usually quiet or hesitant become fully engaged and confident while working on their creations. The resin projects encouraged collaboration, creativity, and positive classroom interactions, and students were excited to showcase their finished earrings and keychains to classmates and staff.","fullyFundedDate":1771766019741,"projectUrl":"project/art-as-therapy-gifts-as-joy/10104078/","projectTitle":"Art as Therapy, Gifts as Joy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Charles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5288901"},{"teacherId":7929208,"projectId":7212899,"letterContent":"You have all brought such immense joy to my students, parents and ultimately community.
