As a school counselor facilitating group activities where students learn with their peers and also from their peers is imperative so I can meet the needs of every student. As a counselor meeting with students only on a one-on-one basis is often ineffective as students learn best with their peers. Because group counseling often happens during lunch or after school snacks are very important so that kids have something to eat during the group activities. Often times students will come to the group for the snacks and then find out that they are also benefiting by learning positive coping and conflict management as well. In the end the snacks and crafts are a way of attracting students to the SEL Groups and then help me to facilitate the mindfulness, mediation and mentoring lessons to my students creating a better school climate and community.
