Our new Speech Department Library has been a big hit so far, and I'm sure we will keep returning to these books for years to come. As a near-daily reader myself, I love that I am able to encourage an interest in books and reading for so many of my students. For this project, I intentionally chose a variety of subjects, lengths, and complexities, all with great illustrations to help my early communicators process the story's language and stay engaged throughout the session. I have also been working on building a \"book companion library\" of worksheets and visual supports to accompany all of our new books and strengthen our students' learning even more!\r\n\r\nBooks are such an important and versatile therapy tool, for readers and non-readers alike. I've been able to use these books to target so many different goals! My student who is working on articulation of S-blend words has been reading \"There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow\". He loves the snowman reveal at the end! My Gestalt Language Learners who are working on early grammar love talking about the illustrations in many of the new books, but particularly \"Flashlight\", \"Grumpy Monkey\", and \"Fussy Flamingo\". My students working on expressive vocabulary do so well with the repetitive structure in the \"Old Lady\" books: we often practice using a fill-in-the-blank language model, with the illustrations available to help us along. The \"If You Give a Mouse a Cookie\" set has been great for targeting length of utterance in simple sentences. My students working on complex skills such as story sequencing, making predictions, and determining meaning from context have really enjoyed \"The Day the Crayons Quit\" and \"Creepy Crayon\" (and have even asked me to acquire additional books in these series!). My youngest learners adore our new lift-the-flap and pop-up style books, and the tactile engagement of \"The Very Hungry Caterpillar Hide & Seek\" books.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping our students learn and thrive with this new Speech Department Library. This donation has already made an impact on the students in my class, and will continue to do so for future kindergartners. The Bee-Bots have allowed my students to explore their movements and the effects of the directions they program into them. They are gaining hands on experiences to connect to actual learning.\r\nI have adapted an activity table in our classroom to accommodate this technology and allow my students several different ways to use the Bee-Bots. The Bee-Bots move in six inch increments, so the table has become an interactive map, with everything spaced to allow for accurate programming outcomes. The students discuss compass directions for how to navigate the Bee-Bots and work in pairs to program the technology, following specific instructions, to get form certain places on the map to others. They have been so excited using the new technology that many ask to use them during free time!\r\nThe addition of this technology has allowed my planning and instruction to now incorporate the Bee-bots in creative ways. As more exploration and use is integrated, I will find new and other interesting ways to involve this technology in most subject areas and units of instruction. This will support the learning experience for my students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1766442486567,"projectUrl":"project/kindergarteners-are-coding/9773851/","projectTitle":"Kindergarteners are Coding!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Livermore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9345151"},{"teacherId":8366489,"projectId":10106370,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your thoughtful and impactful support of our classroom. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for investing in our students and believing in their potential.\r\n\r\nThe addition of Indi robots to our classroom has transformed the way students experience learning. Instead of simply reading about problem-solving or coding concepts, they now get to practice these skills in hands-on, interactive ways. Indi introduces young learners to the foundations of computational thinking without requiring screens, making coding approachable and fun. Students work collaboratively to design paths, test solutions, and revise their thinking when challenges arise. They are learning perseverance, teamwork, and critical thinking—all while smiling and cheering each other on. Watching their confidence grow as they successfully program their robots is truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nYour support has also provided essential craft supplies that allow creativity to flourish. Simple materials like construction paper, markers, glue, paint, and scissors may seem small, but in a classroom they become powerful tools for expression. Students use these supplies to design obstacle courses for their robots, build prototypes, create models, and bring their ideas to life. Craft projects also support fine motor skills, artistic expression, and imaginative thinking. For many students, creating something with their own hands builds a sense of pride and ownership in their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1770253666068,"projectUrl":"project/essential-supplies-and-technology/9987819/","projectTitle":"Essential Supplies and Technology","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cherry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8366489"},{"teacherId":8825539,"projectId":9930114,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our DonorsChoose project, \"Curiosity Quest: Nonfiction Book Drive.\" Your generosity is helping us expand our library's nonfiction collection with engaging, high-quality books that fuel students' natural curiosity about the world around them.
