Do you remember curling up with an amazing book in school? More then likely this book was from the classroom library. Classroom libraries are the backbone of classroom activity. The classroom library is to support reading and writing instruction. It allows the student to get lost in a good read. Books that are related to science, health, mathematics, history, economics, geography, music, art, drama, dance, languages, grammar, spelling, literature, computers, and other topics can be selected and loved. Classroom libraries are a resource and location for independent reading, personal exploration, project research, and individual assessment. Every good comprehensive reading program provides students daily time to read independently. The classroom library is typically the resource that supports children's daily independent reading of self-selected books that meet their personal, recreational reading interests. Our classroom currently had an outdated classroom library. We are in need of an updated library that draws readers in who do not want to put their books down. Most of our books are ripped, old, and outdated. We will use this daily in our schedule to allow students to check books out for their book bins to read for pleasure at their desks. In 2nd grade, reading is pivotal, and teaching the student how to love to read is extremely important. I cannot currently do this with the book selection we currently have now. By donating to our project, now only will open a young students eyes to the world of imagination through reading but also develop a love for reading through the new books that can be funded.
