When the materials first arrived, the classroom was filled with a sense of reverence and excitement; seeing the high-quality resources made the history feel tangible rather than just a story from a textbook. One student remarked that having these materials made them feel like their history truly mattered to people outside of our school.\r\nWe have been using these resources to map out the strategic unification of the islands, specifically focusing on the cultural significance of the Naha Stone and the battle of Kepaniwai. A standout moment occurred during a recent lesson where students used the new visual aids to debate the tactical decisions made during the unification process. This hands-on approach allowed them to move beyond rote memorization and instead engage in critical thinking about leadership, perseverance, and the complexities of governance.\r\nLooking ahead, the students are transitioning into a creative synthesis project where they will develop their own \"Moʻolelo Journals.\" Using the foundational knowledge gained from your generous donations, they will write from the perspective of a contemporary of Kamehameha, documenting the changes they witnessed across the islands. This project will not only assess their historical understanding but also allow them to practice their narrative writing skills as we continue to explore the enduring legacy of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi.","fullyFundedDate":1766883393335,"projectUrl":"project/kamehameha-the-greats-rise-to-power/9858506/","projectTitle":"Kamehameha the Greatʻs Rise to Power","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Caroline","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10102918_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759288991075","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10102918"},{"teacherId":7037779,"projectId":6254718,"letterContent":"Mahalo to our generous donors! Both helped them come up with the creative visions for their projects.\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, I was not able to get pictures of their projects, but they did marvelously. The one thing that they all learned while doing this project was that they were able to complete it better as a team than as a singular person. They also learned what each of their strengths and weaknesses were, and how to use them.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest things a lot of their parents said, was that they saw a growth in their child's global awareness and accountability. I also got to hear parents talk about how amazed they were that their child has shown such a keen interest in hawaii's history and that they were glad to have someone like me teach them.
