So by teaching my students how to make this new type of lei, they can reduce the use of natural materials, reduce the waste of natural materials, and also make something that will last forever. \r\n\r\nWith the feathers, I taught my students how to make kāhili and hat lei. This is a very complicated skill. But through this work, my students learned more about the Hawaiian culture and tradition of the elders. \r\n\r\nMy goal in class is to give my students opportunities to learn through hands-on work and connect them to their culture, and/or the Hawaiian culture, since that is where they live. Because a portion of our school day takes place outdoors at the farm, students often need to complete work on paper rather than on devices. The printer allows us to quickly print lessons, assignments, and reflection sheets so learning can continue seamlessly in different environments. This flexibility helps students stay focused and engaged, even when learning looks different from a traditional classroom setting.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about the printer is seeing their work become something real and purposeful. Beyond worksheets, we have used the printer to create custom stickers for a medicinal salve the students made using plants grown at the farm. Students were thrilled to design, print, and apply labels to a product they helped create from start to finish. We also printed signs for a student-run plant sale, giving students a sense of ownership and pride as they saw their learning contribute to a real-world event.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who struggle in traditional classroom settings have especially warmed to this technology. Hands-on learners and students who benefit from structure feel more confident when they have printed materials they can physically interact with. Others take great pride in contributing to projects like labeling products or creating signage, which helps build confidence, responsibility, and a stronger connection between academic skills and real-life applications. Overall, the printer has become an essential tool in supporting flexible, meaningful learning for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1759199753392,"projectUrl":"project/print-it-share-it-learn-it/9772130/","projectTitle":"Print It, Share It, Learn It","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Henneman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2330613_orig.jpg?crop=1149,1149,x146,y161&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1698800858217","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/doverbulldogs7"},{"teacherId":7942320,"projectId":9776103,"letterContent":"My students are truly enjoying using the new resources. They have been using the clipboards to allow themselves to get up and move around the classroom to complete work. They no longer have to stay sitting at a desk to complete work, which is definitely a plus because so many of my students are kinesthetic learners. The clipboards have also helped to facilitate collaborative learning. When not in use, the clipboard holders have been great at keeping them organized and in good condition. Also, students know they are able to use clipboards whenever desired, and they appreciate having this option. \r\n\tIn addition to the clipboards, the foldable lap desks have been a great addition to our classroom. Students have been using these boards to work closer to the front of the room, where they can see better. For example, I have some students with poor eyesight who sometimes forget their glasses at home or have broken their glasses, making it difficult for them to see. If they are unable to see the day's lesson, they grab a foldable lap desk, set it down on the floor at the front of the room, and work from there where they are able to see and learn well. Students have also been using these desks as a flexible seating option when doing either partner or group work.\r\n\tFurthermore, the air dry clay has been amazing to have. We used the air dry clay to make clay tablets where students practiced writing cuneiform on it when we were studying the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia. The students had so much fun with this activity, and they loved being able to take home their clay tablet to keep forever. Writing cuneiform using a stylus made them realize how difficult this was, so they really appreciated the writing we have now since it is a lot faster to record.\r\n\tStudents have been using the colored pencils to color their maps and other projects. We didn't have many colored pencils before, so students really enjoy having these class sets of colored pencils. They also enjoy having the incentive prizes to reward their growth, achievements, and positive behavior. \r\n We all are forever grateful for all of these amazing donations to our classroom! When students first saw all of the donated materials, they were beyond ecstatic! Our classroom became brighter with all those smiles. Thanks to you, our classroom is well-equipped and thriving! Moving forward, we will continue to use these materials, such as when we start making our 3D Egyptian pyramid.
