Through our Hoʻoulu ʻĀina (Foundations of Agriculture, Design, and Construction) framework, our 7th and 8th graders engage in project-based learning that bridges environmental technology, sustainable design, and agricultural engineering. Divided between classroom instruction and outdoor lab work, students explore core agronomy principles, soil science, plant propagation, and permaculture food systems while building our campus agricultural footprint. Integrating Design and Construction pathways, students apply hand-tool safety skills to engineer functional schoolyard infrastructure—such as raised beds, modular composters, and pergolas—out of repurposed materials. These hands-on STEM projects build practical skills and direct connections to CTE career pathways.
