When I first announced to my students that I would be creating a project to try to get them prizes to reward them for their hard work and perseverance in Algebra 1, they were skeptical. Once the boxes of snacks for my \"smart cookie\" students started coming in, they were absolutely thrilled and shocked. Many of the students could not believe that there were people kind enough to fund a project dedicated to them. The students helped me open every box and organize the rewards neatly. They also helped me create goodie bags to be used for our \"student of the week\" prizes. We also organized a separate section of the snacks to reward positive behavior and effort in our educational games. \r\n\r\nWhen the highlighters were delivered, the students wanted to use them immediately. I watched with pride and gratitude as my students began highlighting their notes and sharing the new highlighters with their classmates. Many of the students expressed that the highlighters helped them be organized and study better. Many of the students were also proud of themselves for creating colorful, organized notes and stated that it was the reason why they were starting to score higher on assessments. \r\n\r\nAs I share this brief letter after the current school year has just ended, I want you to know that you generosity was greatly appreciated by me and my students. Looking at next year, I hope to continue assigning a \"student of the week\" or start assigning \"students of the quarter\" for each class. I also intend to use the remaining highlighters during the upcoming school year to assist my incoming students with their notes and studying. I cannot express enough how much my students and I truly appreciate you for funding this project and supporting my students.","fullyFundedDate":1771595116830,"projectUrl":"project/a-cookie-a-day-keeps-these-smarties-at-b/10103271/","projectTitle":"A Cookie A Day Keeps These Smarties At Bay!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Montoya","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9469136"},{"teacherId":7938291,"projectId":10109276,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating supplies to my under privileged classroom. While these items are small and inexpensive, the frequent use causes these materials to be temporary, thus adding up in expense quickly. The items only get more expensive when they are higher quality. We believe all students deserve a high quality music education experience, which is why the donations of clarinet and saxophone reeds, cork grease, and valve oil are highly valued and appreciated.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, flip folders and rhythm sticks were donated, of which we are very grateful. The flip folders will allow for more students to be able to participate in marching band and have quality equipment by which to read their music. Making sure all students have access to reading music is paramount for the success of the ensemble. The rhythm sticks will allow for non-band students to have an easier time interacting with music. Students are also practicing reading strategies that promote academic conversations and strengthen reading comprehension skills.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive and student-centered. Students participate in independent reading, partner reading, small-group instruction, and classroom discussions using books that are accessible and meaningful to them.
