Their eyes lit up as they noticed items such as applesauce, brownie brittle, chips, and other snack choices. They were excited not only because they enjoy receiving treats, but also because the snacks represented something meaningful. Small gestures can often make a big impact, and for many students, receiving a snack can make them feel seen and appreciated.\r\n The students were consistently appreciative and grateful whenever they received a snack. It has been a joy to watch their faces light up as they realize they have the professional-grade resources—like the precise measuring sticks and timers—needed to take their scientific inquiries to the next level.\r\n\r\nEach grade level is utilizing these resources to tackle different challenges. Currently, our 2nd graders are using the blue tape to engineer intricate joints and braces for earthquake-proof structures, testing the limits of stability. Meanwhile, 3rd and 4th graders are busy calculating kinetic energy; they use the measuring sticks to track how far their cars travel and the timers to ensure every trial is consistent and fair. Even our youngest learners in Kindergarten and 1st grade are getting their hands busy, using the glue and craft supplies to bring various STEM projects to life. These tools have turned our classroom into a true laboratory of discovery.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our Kindergarten and 1st grade students are beginning a plant study, using pipe cleaners to model different parts of a flower. Our 2nd graders are refining their earthquake towers to withstand large earthquakes, while the 3rd and 4th graders are pivoting to safety engineering by designing crash restraint systems for their vehicles. Finally, our 5th graders are embarking on a vital renewable energy project, using our new supplies to build functional water bottle filters. It was rewarding to see their eyes light up, knowing they had many more resources on hand to fuel their creativity and design their ambitious projects.\r\nThese donations have directly supported essential projects that teach problem-solving and critical thinking. For example, our young engineers have used the materials to design a tool to effectively pollinate a flower, build a functional water filtration system, and create an animal shelter that can withstand both a rainstorm and a tornado. A particularly memorable moment was when a class worked on creating a zipline to safely transport a Lego explorer. Having quality materials available have truly elevated the learning experience for every single student, from the youngest builders to our nearly-graduating 5th graders.\r\nLooking ahead, we are committed to building on this fantastic foundation by continuing to integrate the Engineering Design Process into fun, relevant, and real-world STEM activities. Our students will continue to apply their skills to solve challenging problems, with upcoming projects focused on important topics like conservation, natural disasters, weather phenomena, and the science of sound. Your contribution has ensured that every student has the resources they need to keep learning, keep inventing, and most importantly, keep having fun in STEM.
