The students loved getting the opportunity to work outside of the classroom. The fresh air, sights and sounds of the garden put everyone in a good mood. While we were weeding the garden we found a hawk moth caterpillar that the students were eager to hold. They took turns holding it and thinking about which side was its head. The unique thing about this species of caterpillar is its double sided eyes. The new indoor resources have completely reenergized our classroom while keeping it focused and functional. The Sphero Indi robotics kit have turned our floor into an exciting coding lab where students build foundational programming skills. The animal magnets offer our visual learners an excellent, hands-on tool to interact with daily lessons and learning directional movements. Best of all, having our new vacuum cleaner means we can have a clean learning area where students can collaborate freely without having to worry about dirt and allergens. \r\n\r\n Meanwhile, in our school's Peace Garden has become an extension of our classroom learning. Thanks to the new grass cutter, we've been able to clear back the overgrown grass and safely maintain our school garden. Having a clear walkway gives our students a dedicated space to access the garden better and to connect with nature. The highlight of our garden space is currently our pineapple growing project. Students are learning the patience of agriculture, which has brought a new level of pride in growing our own food and to relate real-world learning to our classroom. It has been so helpful to be able to print out learning activities for my students. With the end of the year, there have also been many projects the kids have worked on with the use of my printer.\r\nThe students have also enjoyed getting to use the new headphones. We use the computers daily to do their learning activities in math and reading. Many of them had headphones at the beginning of the school year, but by now a lot of them had broken them. The new headphones have allowed my students to hear their learning tasks better and focus more.\r\nThe new black baskets are great for the students to organize their things. My old baskets were starting to break and crack. This is my third year spearheading this event, but it was the first time I added snacks (Goldfish), drinks (powdered apple crips juice), self inking stamps and travel stickers. Adding these items enhanced this event because the students I service are very young, so supplying a snack w/a drink as well as giving a memento (stickers and stamps )for the students to remember the event brought this occasion to another level. The ink cartages for the printer helped to print out the multicultural day flyers to communicate the event details to the parents. At the end of the event, parents were given a survey to fill out and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. \r\nYour funds impacted about 150 students at our school. Because of donors like you, I was able to make make this occasion a special day for these students and the parents who attended. Your contribution was more than money; it was increased engagement and empowered students to believe they could make a difference.\r\n\r\nThe HeArt for the Reef project was intended to be a STEAM project that would allow students to explore the issues concerning their local marine life. We partnered with the Waikiki Aquarium to learn more about the biology of coral polyps and spend extensive time learning how to craft a conservation message that can be translated into a sculpture that could double has a reef restoration form. The connections that students made through this project were invaluable in helping students find their place as citizens that can make a difference.
