Because of this generous support, my students now have access to a wide variety of both new titles and beloved classics that reflect their diverse interests and ever-evolving identities as readers. In a single year, a 10-year-old can go from loving graphic novels to devouring fantasy, historical fiction, or nonfiction about space or sports. Having a rich classroom library means students are no longer limited to \"what's available\" — they are empowered to find books that truly spark curiosity, deepen thinking, and build a lifelong love of reading.\r\n\r\nBeyond reading, this project has strengthened my students' identities as writers and creators. With the new whiteboard markers and supplies, students regularly jot ideas, map out story plans, draft character traits, and create book recommendation lists for their peers. The consumable materials have allowed them to design their own stories, craft alternate endings, and develop passion projects inspired by the authors they admire. Instead of simply consuming texts, students are now analyzing mentor authors, experimenting with craft moves, and seeing themselves as \"authors in training.\"\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project has built a culture of literacy in our classroom. Students eagerly share book talks, recommend titles to classmates, and proudly display their own writing alongside the works of published authors. The excitement around reading and writing is contagious — even reluctant readers are finding entry points that feel meaningful to them. Because of this support, my classroom is not just a place where students complete assignments; it is a community of readers, thinkers, and the authors of tomorrow, inspired by the authors of yesterday.","fullyFundedDate":1667282553853,"projectUrl":"project/books-and-things/6958296/","projectTitle":"Books and Things!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4483605_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y555&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1628009479146","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4483605"},{"teacherId":9705698,"projectId":8906015,"letterContent":"The vertical whiteboards have completely transformed the way my students engage in math through our Building Thinking Classroom model. Instead of sitting quietly at their desks, students now stand, collaborate, and solve problems together in visible learning spaces. One powerful moment happened during a fraction problem-solving lesson—groups were working on different strategies, and students began comparing methods across boards. They debated reasoning, revised their thinking, and explained their solutions with confidence. The whiteboards allow them to take risks, erase mistakes easily, and focus on the process rather than just the final answer.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the boards mounted around the room, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to stand up, grab markers, and begin working. Even students who are usually hesitant to participate became more involved because the environment feels active and low-pressure. Writing vertically encourages teamwork and accountability, and students naturally talk through their thinking instead of working in isolation. It has created a classroom culture where mistakes are part of learning and thinking is visible.\r\n\r\nNext, my students will use the boards to tackle multi-step word problems and math challenges that require deeper reasoning and multiple solution paths. They will rotate between boards, analyze peer strategies, and refine their mathematical arguments. Because of your generosity, our classroom is no longer just a place to complete work—it is a space where students truly think, collaborate, and grow together. What's great about this game is that it can also be played with decimals. \r\nLearning through games receive more cheers than jeers from students, and the best part is that the students don't realize they are learning. They prefer games using the dice over the cards. It must be something about the physical rolling of the dice that makes it feel more like a game. \r\nOnce a game is introduced whole and the students know how to play it, this game is offered as a choice for students to revisit during centers.
