The supplies you provided, including gloves, butcher paper, drink dispensers, and food service materials, have already been put to meaningful use.\r\n\r\nOne of the first projects students organized was selling sandwiches at our school fair. When the supplies arrived, students were genuinely excited. It made their plans feel real. Instead of just talking about fundraising, they were able to follow through. They planned the menu, calculated costs, organized shifts, and practiced customer service skills. Watching them confidently run their booth was a proud moment.\r\n\r\nAfter raising funds, students met with a coordinator from our local food bank to learn how they could make the biggest impact. Rather than simply donating money, they decided to purchase hygiene supplies and assemble kits themselves. They've already volunteered four times so far this year at Hawai'i North Shore Food Bank distributions in our community and personally handed out the hygiene kits. That experience was powerful. Students saw firsthand how their planning and teamwork translated into direct support for their neighbors.\r\n\r\nThese projects have helped students build leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. They are learning how to organize events, manage materials responsibly, collaborate as a team, and reflect on how to improve their impact each time.\r\n\r\nNext, our club is preparing for another school fair where students plan to sell Thai iced tea and lilikoi drinks. They are budgeting, testing recipes, and organizing roles again, this time with even more confidence. They are also continuing to plan future projects, including cooking taro chips and taro desserts to promote sustainability and cultural pride. These efforts connect entrepreneurship with culture and community service, helping students see how their identities and values can shape meaningful projects.\r\n\r\nYour support has done more than provide supplies. It has empowered students to experience what it feels like to take an idea from start to finish and make a tangible difference. They are not just learning about leadership and service, they are practicing it.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and helping them grow into thoughtful, capable leaders who care deeply about their community.","fullyFundedDate":1763494159372,"projectUrl":"project/helping-avid-students-bring-passion-proj/9784985/","projectTitle":"Helping AVID Students Bring Passion Projects to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Liu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8980948"},{"teacherId":9691203,"projectId":9535141,"letterContent":"Our classroom has become a hub of creativity and logic thanks to your generous support. We kicked things off by using the new poster boards and drawing materials to master solving linear equations. Instead of just working in small notebooks, students used the large boards to \"think big,\" mapping out each inverse operation step-by-step in bold colors. This led directly into our \"Slope in the Real World\" project, where students designed massive roller coaster posters. By calculating the steepness of every drop and climb, they were able to see the literal \"rise and run\" of their equations come to life on a grand scale. The students' reaction to the materials was a mix of awe and instant inspiration. They loved the \"cool colors\" and the high-quality poster boards, which we put to use immediately for more than just math. We spent time creating personal identity mosaics, where students used the art supplies to represent the different pieces of their lives, and hand-crafted Christmas decorations to bring warmth to our workspace. Seeing them use the same markers to solve for $x$ and then decorate the room for the holidays has created a sense of ownership and pride in our classroom that wasn't there before.Looking ahead, we are ready to take these skills to the next level. Now that my students have a firm grasp on linear equations and slope, our next step is to explore exponential equations. We will be creating a \"Growth and Decay\" gallery, using our remaining poster boards to visualize how numbers double and triple over time. Using the vibrant poster boards and new graphing supplies you provided, students worked in small groups to design intricate roller coasters. They weren't just drawing; they were calculating the \"steepness\" of every drop and climb, labeling various sections with the correct slope formulas. These large-scale visuals allowed them to see the connection between abstract coordinate geometry and the physical world in a way a standard textbook never could.\r\n\r\nThe moment the materials arrived was truly unforgettable. When I first unveiled the stacks of neon poster boards and the fresh sets of colorful markers, the students were genuinely thrilled. It felt less like a math lesson and more like a creative studio. One student remarked that the \"cool colors\" made the data points actually stand out, making it much easier to visualize how a steep positive slope differs from a gentle negative one. This injection of color and quality material transformed their perception of the assignment from a chore into a challenge they were excited to tackle.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are not slowing down. Now that my students have a firm grasp on linear slopes, we are moving into the world of exponential equations. Our next steps involve creating a \"Growth and Decay\" gallery where students will use more of these awesome posters to graph rapid increases, such as population growth or compound interest. The laptop stand has become the heartbeat of our classroom—students wheel it to different stations throughout the day, move it outside as a platform for outdoor photography, position it at flexible seating areas, and gather around it in groups to edit and share their work. It's exactly the kind of functional, collaborative workspace we envisioned, and watching students take ownership of how they use it has been incredible.\r\nThe memory cards you provided are absolutely essential—without them, our cameras would simply be beautiful paperweights! Students are now able to work simultaneously, each capturing their unique perspective and vision. The new camera lens has become a treasured resource that students eagerly take turns with, pushing their creativity to new levels. The colored construction paper has opened up exciting cross-curricular opportunities—students created origami objects for a photography shoot, designed thank you cards and Christmas cards, and discovered that integrating art into my core ELA classes helps them retain information and genuinely get excited about assignments. Several students even submitted their photographs to Waialua High's 2nd Annual Art Show, proudly showcasing work created through collaboration and the resources you made possible.\r\nYour support has shown my students that their perspectives matter, their emotions are valid, and their creativity deserves to be nurtured.
