Teaching engaging science lessons can be difficult, particularly now since hands-on labs are challenging to perform safely due to Covid. By providing art lessons to my students, we will learn about cells and cancer in a creative way that will allow students to tap into their inner artist and produce beautiful and intricate cell models of both plant and animal cells. Students will also take an in-depth exploration into the individual organelles that comprise the cell and learn about their structure and function through colorful diagrams that they will each individualize and use as a study reference for upcoming assessments. Lastly, we will explore the ethics of cancer research through the use of cells harvested from the now infamous Henrietta Lacks.
