Demolition and asbestos abatement were completed in May, but no renovation work took place over the summer, so students have returned to school still waiting for renovations to begin. Although they are disappointed that they cannot yet return to the \"real\" student hub, they are happy to have a place where they can gather, relax, and unplug. The large coloring posters have been a huge hit, with students working together, sharing ideas, and adding their own creativity to a shared project.\r\n\r\nThe conversation starter cards have also been extremely popular. Students who might otherwise spend their free time on their phones are sitting together and asking one another questions, laughing, talking, and learning more about their peers. Seeing students choose face-to-face interaction is particularly rewarding as an educator and reinforces the importance of having spaces where they can simply connect without academic or digital distractions.\r\n\r\nAs renovations to our library/SASH await their start, we will continue using these resources to make our temporary space welcoming and engaging. Our next steps are to introduce additional creative projects, continue collaborative activities, and provide students with opportunities to relax, socialize, and recharge. These materials are helping us maintain the spirit of SASH as a place for students to connect and feel a sense of belonging, even while we wait for our permanent space to be restored.","fullyFundedDate":1778020721067,"projectUrl":"project/continuing-to-unplug-creativity-conver/10106420/","projectTitle":"Continuing to Unplug: Creativity, Conversation, and Collaboration","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pescaia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1931687_orig.jpg?crop=2680,2680,x1760,y440&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1667201057219","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1931687"},{"teacherId":9808037,"projectId":10113610,"letterContent":"The supplies and equipment donated to my students have inspired endless possibilities. They started to find art in every day objects such as the side of a magazine rack, a floor mat near the door, or the plastic tray on my desk. The seeds and soil you provided have brought science to life for my students in such an exciting and meaningful way. Instead of simply reading about photosynthesis in a textbook, students have been able to observe the process firsthand by planting, caring for, and monitoring their own plants each day.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments happened when students began noticing small sprouts pushing through the soil. This led to rich classroom discussions about how plants make their own food through photosynthesis and why sunlight is such an important part of the process. Students eagerly checked on their plants every morning, measured growth, and recorded observations in their science journals like real scientists.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were beyond excited. Many immediately started asking questions about what we would plant, how quickly things would grow, and whether they could take their plants home eventually. Their enthusiasm and curiosity made our science lessons even more engaging and interactive.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue tracking plant growth and conducting simple experiments to explore how different conditions, such as sunlight or water availability, affect photosynthesis and plant health.
