Because of your donation, the artists in my classes have been able to explore their creativity and experiment with a variety of new media. Students in three of my classes have enjoyed learning about and trying the gelli printing process. They had created, unique one of a kind prints that have become a part of their art pieces or have become pieces on their own. They have had the opportunity to try drawing with ink and are looking forward to trying batik in the near future. These materials are very beneficial for my AP drawing students as they practice, experiment, and revise their work for their final AP portfolios. Some of the activities and experiences that they have had the opportunity to try this year greatly benefited from your support of this project. Many of them have never had the experience of working with pill bugs and algae. Because of your generous donations, they were able to explore how the pill bugs responded to various stimuli like potatoes, perfume, heat, & garlic. They were excited to see how they bugs seem to follow each other's scents and how they would move from chamber to chamber according to the stimulus. They were able to collect real data and use statistical analyses like a chi-square test that enabled them to draw deeper conclusions about the pill bugs' behavior. With the algae beads, my students were able to explore photosynthesis and cellular respiration and collect evidence that enabled them to correct the misconception that algae only perform photosynthesis during the day and respiration at night. Using the algae beads assisted them in confirming that both processes can occur simultaneously and they collected evidence to support this in real time. Using the live organisms sparked my students' curiosity and improved their critical thinking skills. I am so grateful to have been able to provide these experiences for my students where in the past it would have been simulated on a computer. They expressed that these investigations were their favorite activities of the year!","fullyFundedDate":1732929568252,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-hs-biology-with-hands-on-inves/8699120/","projectTitle":"Exploring HS Biology with Hands on Investigations","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Isdell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9704577"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107062","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":494,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":45,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":74,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":55.6,"schoolId":107062,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Martha E Stilwell School of Arts on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Martha E Stilwell School of Arts","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/clayton-county-public-schools/martha-ellen-stilwell-school-of-the-arts/107062"}
