My ESOL students were impacted because they often felt left out of the conversation. When traditional American holidays roll around, the school/ community takes great notice. In this case, Halloween would always trump Dia De Los Muertos because we have such a small number of Hispanic students in the school and community. This year, however, they learned that they can make their voices heard when they have the support and supplies to make this holiday significant.\r\n\r\nWe used the decorations all around our classroom, hallways, and library! We set up a picture booth so students could get a selfie taken with the decorations around them. Also, when the school had a trunk or treat a few days before Halloween, the students decorated my car with all of the skulls, streamers, and stickers, so our theme was obviously Dia De Los Muertos!
