The giant games like yard pong, Connect Four, and Jenga, along with classic games like Guess Who?, Sorry, checkers, and Candy Land, helped reinforce important skills such as turn-taking, problem-solving, and critical thinking. I also incorporated these games into academic centers, where students practiced math, reading, and communication skills in a playful way. I noticed that students were more engaged, worked better with their peers, and developed stronger focus and perseverance. These games created a positive learning environment where students were excited to participate.\r\n\r\n With these materials, I was able to create more hands-on and collaborative learning opportunities. I incorporated the games into small group instruction, indoor recess, and reward-based learning activities. This allowed me to build stronger classroom community, teach important social-emotional skills, and provide students with meaningful brain breaks that helped them reset and refocus. I was also able to support students in practicing skills like following directions, teamwork, and good sportsmanship—skills that are essential both inside and outside the classroom. These games made it easier to balance academic learning with social development.\r\n\r\n I would like to give a special thank you to The DonorsChoose Community for your generosity and support. Because of you, my students have access to engaging, high-quality games that make learning joyful and meaningful. One special moment that stands out is during our literacy block. After a focused phonics lesson and small group rotations, students are able to enjoy a quick snack break. This helps them recharge and stay focused for the remainder of our reading activities. I've noticed that when students are not distracted by hunger, they are more engaged in discussions, more willing to participate, and better able to complete their work. The snacks have truly become a part of our routine, helping create a positive and supportive learning environment.\r\n\r\n When my students first saw the snacks, they were incredibly excited and grateful. Many of them expressed big smiles and immediately said \"thank you,\" even though they knew the snacks came from generous donors. For some students, it was a relief to know they would have something to eat during the day. The excitement quickly turned into a sense of comfort and security, knowing that their classroom is a place where their needs are cared for. It was a very heartwarming moment for all of us.\r\n\r\n As we continue our current lessons in reading and math, the next steps are focused on building independence and strengthening foundational skills. In reading, students are working on decoding words and improving comprehension through small group instruction and independent practice. In math, we are focusing on problem-solving and building number sense. Having consistent access to snacks allows students to stay energized and focused, which is especially important as we move into more challenging concepts. My goal is to continue creating a classroom environment where students feel supported both academically and physically, so they can fully engage in their learning and reach their full potential.","fullyFundedDate":1765203861530,"projectUrl":"project/snack-pack-heroes/9666732/","projectTitle":"Snack Pack Heroes!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rivera","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9637354_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756338815991","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nilva-rivera"},{"teacherId":9637354,"projectId":9644126,"letterContent":"The printer has become an essential tool in our classroom by allowing me to create immediate, targeted learning materials that meet my students exactly where they are. In first grade, students are developing foundational skills in reading and math at very different paces. With the printer, I can quickly provide differentiated phonics worksheets, hands-on math activities, and visual supports that reinforce lessons taught with the alphabetic trays, dice, and clocks. This technology helps turn learning into a more personalized and responsive experience, ensuring every student gets the support they need to grow.\r\n\r\n My students are most excited about how interactive and hands-on the new materials are. The alphabetic trays make word-building feel like a game, the dice bring energy and fun into math practice, and the clocks allow students to connect learning to real-life routines. The printer adds to this excitement because students love seeing fresh, customized activities created just for them. It makes learning feel special and engaging, rather than repetitive, and keeps them motivated to participate.\r\n\r\n Yes, several students who previously struggled to stay engaged have really connected with these new tools. For example, some of my emerging readers have gained confidence using the alphabetic trays to physically build and manipulate words, which supports their understanding in a concrete way. In math, students who were hesitant about numbers are now more willing to participate when using dice during games. Additionally, students who benefit from extra support are thriving because the printer allows me to provide them with individualized practice that meets their specific needs. These students are showing increased confidence, participation, and a greater willingness to take academic risks.","fullyFundedDate":1764782611276,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on/9644126/","projectTitle":"Hands On!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rivera","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9637354_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756338815991","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nilva-rivera"},{"teacherId":9643989,"projectId":9881030,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom and for making this project possible. The Expo markers and whiteboard supplies have also made our whole-group lessons much more interactive, allowing every student to participate, share ideas, and practice their skills in a fun and engaging way.\r\n\r\nThe snacks and sensory materials have already made a meaningful difference in our classroom environment. Having snack options available ensures that all students have the energy they need to focus and learn throughout the day. The sensory toys and dough have also been a wonderful support for social-emotional learning, giving students calming tools they can use to regulate their emotions and refocus when needed.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our classroom is an even more welcoming and supportive place for learning. The incubator, pen, and heat lamp created the perfect environment for our students to observe every stage of a chick's development—from egg to fluffy hatchling! The excitement in the classroom was contagious. Each morning, students rushed in to check on the eggs, carefully recording their observations and eagerly awaiting hatch day. The moment the first chick cracked through its shell was unforgettable—cheers erupted, and wide eyes were glued to the incubator. It sparked wonder, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of life cycles in a way that no textbook ever could.\r\n\r\nThis project brought science to life and connected so many of our lessons—from sequencing and journaling to empathy and teamwork. Students took turns caring for the chicks, keeping them warm and safe while documenting changes and asking thoughtful questions. The experience inspired conversations about farming, food systems, and how we share our planet with living things.
