I have never see a group of students so eager to read and complete work, it's a struggle to get them out and back to their seats because they want to be there all day long! Our new leveled library and cozy seating have completely transformed independent reading! I created a wow work wall for students whenever they complete their independent reading to show off their work! We used our new materials to practice identifying main ideas and key details, and they were so proud to display their work. \r\n\r\n Next, my students will use the new books and clipboards to dive deeper into their small group projects; writing! They'll be practicing how to summarize stories and explain the main idea to their classmates as if they were the teacher. Thanks to these resources from the Stahl Family, they now have the tools and the space to work independently and confidently. I've been able to establish strong routines and procedures in our classroom that make reading feel exciting instead of like a chore. The students did not think the seating was there to stay. \r\n\r\nOne of the best moments for me was when one of the students who is not a huge fan of coming to school asked about using one of the flexible seating chairs. I told them yes of course they were allowed to sit in one of them. From the bottom of my heart. At the start of summer, I was thinking about how I can make this next year so special for my students, and the idea dawned on me-- a printer! \r\n\r\nHaving a personal, COLOR, printer has impacted my students in the best way. I have been able to put affirmations around the room that encourage the students to keep going, I am able to facilitate their learning through the use of word walls (math, English, writing, science), and I am able to print out fun and engaging worksheets/activites for my students to do. A word wall was something I was excited to bring to life this year and through your donations I was able to do it! The students are able to learn new vocabulary and refresh their memory on old vocabulary, all while learning how to spell it correctly.\r\n\r\nWorking at a Title 1 school, a lot of these kids have a rough upbringing and having the opportunity now to create a fun, BRIGHT, color-filled classroom and seeing their faces light up each day is so comforting. My students love their affirmation mirror, and they daily, sometimes multiple times a day, will go up there to affirm themselves. \r\n\r\nI just can't thank you enough!
