Because of you, my 4th-grade students have access to exciting, high-interest nonfiction texts that make reading both fun and meaningful. Each week, the Scholastic magazines deliver real-world topics that spark curiosity and give us the opportunity to dive into science, history, and current events—all while building key reading skills.\r\n\r\nThese texts help my students practice strategies like identifying main ideas and supporting details, analyzing text features (like captions, diagrams, and bolded vocabulary), and drawing inferences from what they read. We use the magazines during whole-group instruction, small groups, and even in centers. Reading in our classroom has become a shared adventure—my students now beg to keep their magazines so they can read them again at home!\r\n\r\nOne of my students, who previously struggled to stay focused during reading time, now looks forward to Scholastic days and excitedly shares facts from the articles with his classmates. Another student, a budding environmentalist, was thrilled to read about conservation efforts and even wrote her own persuasive letter to our principal about starting a recycling program. These moments are a direct result of your kindness and generosity—thank you for helping bring joy and purpose to our reading time.","fullyFundedDate":1727980235225,"projectUrl":"project/scholastic-magazine-and-learning-fun/8810680/","projectTitle":"Scholastic Magazine and Learning Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sutherland","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3276954_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690635270972","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/m-sutherland"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_45861","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":367,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":58,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":98,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.2,"schoolId":45861,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Tropical Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Tropical Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/miami-dade-county-public-schools/tropical-elementary-school/45861"}
