These projects were not shared with classmates, but other classrooms, displayed throughout the school and shared during morning announcements in order to help promote a positive school culture. Student-made projects with positive messages were displayed on the office and media center TV so that everyone walking into our school would be inspired.\r\n\r\nTo build kindness and school culture awareness and pride, we recorded school events to share with our community. Having access to a laptop and charger provided a powerful tool to accomplish all project objectives. My students used them to record kind messages, create presentations to be displayed in our office, and take photos and create presentations for our parents. This year, thanks to you my students had an opportunity to give back to people within our school community who are less fortunate by donating nonperishable food and snacks through a student created pantry in an effort to engage in a community service program.\r\n\r\nAs an educator I want to make it our mission to fight food insecurities.\r\nMy students created a food panty and learned why it is important to give back to others when there is an opportunity to give back.\r\n\r\nMy vision for this project was to have students create a fully stocked pantry for distribution to those in need whether within our classroom or in our school community. I feel it is never too early to teach students about giving back and taking action to support a cause that will make this world a better place.\r\n\r\nFood insecurity is a real issue in our community and by engaging in this project my students were able to provide many resources to those in need. It was our goal to learn how to be compassionate to others who are less fortunate than them. Every year, we measure the impact of engaging in this type of project by seeing how many of our students use these ideas to do their own projects for different clubs around our school.\r\n\r\nMy 5th grade kiddos loved being able to give back to people within our school community who are less fortunate by providing food, supplies, stress items, and snacks through a student-created center.\r\nAfter learning about compassion and being able to see through the eyes of others by engaging in a series of activities, lessons, and discussions, the students created an appealing in-class help center. They were in charge of storing, organizing and labeling items in the center and advertising items that were available to all students in the school community who would be in need of a snack, school supplies and even mental health items.\r\nThe kiddos made it their mission to have compassion for those in need as they fought food insecurities and/or are lacking the items they need to succeed in school by inviting them to our center. Creating this center helped our kiddos fulfill the needs of others.\r\n\r\nThis experience taught my students how important it is to give to others in need. The hanging clear storage bags are used to store headphones, books, posters and other supplies in the classroom. The Velcro dots are used to mount posters and decorations on the walls. The timer provide students a clear visual of the allotted time scheduled for assignments or activities.
