When students go to the classroom library and see a character on the color that shares a similar background, ethnicity or race it automatically makes that book more interesting to them. This is extremely important because kids don't like to read! So if they can at least find something or someone they recognize they have a greater chance of picking up the book.\r\n\r\nHaving these books in my classroom as resulted in an increase in check outs. Ghost is particular popular. A waiting list for certain books has become necessary.
