Being a middle school teacher has its own challenges with the tough age students are in these years. While school needs to be a place of learning, it also needs to be a place they feel comfortable, a place of nurturing and most importantly a place where they feel safe. Who would think that having a classroom with cozy chairs, inspirational signs, tables that make them feel they are at home, laptop, comfy rugs would make a difference in the students. Well, they did. From the moment they came in they were in awe of the space transformation. They brought friends over to show them. They love to use the different areas. They have verbally expressed to me how much they love the classroom and LOVE to be here. BINGO! Mission accomplished. They feel more independent. They feel more respected. They feel motivated. I thank you for taking on this project with me because without you, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish it. My students are truly enjoying every moment of it. While I still have more I want to do to the class, this has been huge for them and for me! THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!!! Your donation of headsets with mics is allowing my students to improve their reading skills through the learning program used in my class. Within the Read180 learning program, one of the rotations is a computer station where each student works on remedial reading skills based on their performance on the baseline test. It works on listening skills, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, fluency, and writing skills. Without the headsets, the students would not be able to utilize the program correctly.\r\n\r\nBecause of the headsets, my students are able to listen to teaching instructions for the various skills as well as record themselves reading during the computer application rotation. The recordings allow them to work on improving their fluency and reading speed. They are also able to rerecord the passages after listening to their first recording. This also builds their fluency, pace, and overall reading skills.
