Not only did they have pride in displaying their posters, it encouraged them to work hard and creatively to produce this years yearbook!\r\n\r\nMy students were very excited to receive the Mr. Sketch markers and use the vibrant colors and the fun scents, while making their posters. \r\n\r\nAt this point, we are 10 yearbooks away from selling out for the 2025-2026 school year! Instead of simply taking a picture of an object, students built compositions from the inside out, experimenting with contrast, negative space, and color relationships in a way that connected science and art in a natural way. The glow beneath their work elevated their confidence as much as it elevated the image itself.\r\n\r\nWhen the light tables were first unpacked, the room shifted immediately. There were looks of curiosity, then lots of questions. Students gathered around, touching the surface, placing their hands over the light, and asking what materials they could experiment with. Once they saw how ordinary materials transformed when illuminated, their thinking became more exploratory. They started asking better questions: What happens if I layer tracing paper? Students used measuring tools, basic construction equipment, planning diagrams, and teamwork strategies to complete tasks safely and efficiently. These experiences build critical thinking, math skills, responsibility, and collaboration in a way no worksheet ever could.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students was knowing that their work mattered. They weren't \"pretending\" to build something — they were creating a permanent, safe home for living animals they care for daily. Seeing chickens move into the new coop, watching trees get planted that will feed future students, and observing butterflies begin to visit the garden made the learning feel meaningful and real.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who struggle in traditional classroom settings especially thrived during this project. Students who often have difficulty staying engaged became leaders during the build day — measuring wood, organizing materials, watering newly planted trees, and explaining the purpose of the coop and gardens to visitors.
