I was able to easily purchase and receive all the materials. The majority of the materials were games that I have been able to use already with my PreK through 5th grade students. These games allow engaging opportunities for my speech impaired students to practice their speech sounds that they are working on. In order to achieve correction, students need numerous correct practice opportunities to build \"muscle memory.\" This is challenging to achieve sometimes but with games the students happily will practice their target sound 5-10 times each turn of the game. I am already seeing the progress in their speech. They LOVE all of the games. These items are things I will be able to use over and over- not only throughout the year but for many years to come. As students follow Nat Bowditch's journey—from a young boy who loves numbers to a self-taught navigator—they're learning lessons about determination, curiosity, and the importance of sharing knowledge with others. Academically, students are strengthening their comprehension and analytical skills by tracing character development, identifying themes of resilience and self-education, and examining how historical context shapes the story.\r\nDuring reading time, you might find our students charting Nat's voyages on maps or decoding nautical terms. We hold lively discussions about how grit and learning can change a person's future, and we connect Nat's story to modern examples of innovation and persistence. The classroom feels like a little workshop of explorers and thinkers—just like Nat himself.\r\nSeveral of our students who are hands-on learners or who love science and math have really connected with this story. One student, fascinated by ships and maps, is keeping a \"Captain's Log\" to track the key events of the novel. Another, who once thought of herself as \"not a reader,\" said she loves how the book shows that being smart doesn't mean having it easy—it means working hard to understand the world. It's been inspiring to see so many students find a bit of Nat Bowditch's determination in themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1755647059582,"projectUrl":"project/sailing-into-literacy-with-carry-on-mr/9625507/","projectTitle":"Sailing into Literacy with Carry On, Mr. Bowditch","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shadrick","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10190264"},{"teacherId":9530477,"projectId":9615346,"letterContent":"The donation we received has helped my students in various ways.
