We are using them during phonics instruction to segment, blend, and map sounds to letters. One of my favorite moments has been watching students independently move each magnetic piece as they say the sounds in a word and then write the corresponding letters. They are making their thinking visible while building confidence as readers and writers.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our phonics learning, students will use the Elkonin boxes with increasingly challenging words and sound patterns. Our new storage cart keeps everything organized and within reach, allowing students to independently get what they need and return it when finished. This has made transitions smoother and gives us more valuable time for learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for bringing these hands-on learning opportunities into our classroom! Our student leader teacher assistants opened the box and the children were absolutely thrilled to see the box full of brand new recorders. They really wanted to start playing them right there but I reminded them that everybody gets their own recorder to keep, so we needed to wait until they could be assigned their personal recorder. \r\n\r\nOur students returned to school this week, and my third grade students have been asking about their recorders. They want to know when they will receive their own personal recorder and when they will get to play them. I love the enthusiasm they have for this new instrument! This is a piece of equipment that is used multiple times of year and across all grade levels. \r\n\r\nEvery school year I like to start with the parachute as one of my first class activities. Students learn how to use equipment safely and correctly, and they get to experience what happens when they all work together and follow directions. They explored different types of clouds and examined the various forms of precipitation, allowing them to make real-world connections to the concepts we studied. In our classroom, students regularly complete a variety of online learning programs for reading, math, and science. As they work through lessons and demonstrate progress, they earn stars to recognize their effort and achievement. While the reward may seem simple, it provides an extra layer of motivation that encourages students to stay focused, challenge themselves, and do their very best.\r\nOne of the most inspiring outcomes has been watching students encourage one another. They celebrate each other's accomplishments, offer help when someone is struggling, and work together toward shared success. This sense of teamwork has strengthened our classroom community and made learning more engaging and meaningful.\r\n\r\nIn addition to recognizing academic progress, students are also celebrated for demonstrating strong leadership skills. As a Leader in Me school, our students learn the 7 Habits and develop a strong intrinsic motivation to lead. The standing desk has prevented some of my students from making bad behavior choices. \r\n\r\nIn our Kindergarten classroom, where energy runs high, our standing desk isn't just furniture, it is a tool that supports focus, regulation, and learning readiness.
