I had been telling the students about this fun lesson for a while and explained that I was trying to get the supplies for it. They were so excited when I told them that some generous, kind people stepped up to support their learning and funded our project. \r\n In the STEM lab students, we have been learning about light energy. Students planned and built their LEGO mazes. They had to have at least 4 turns and use 4 mirrors to reflect the laser beam to hit the bulls eye at the end. Many students figured it was going to be really easy to complete, but then realized it wasn't. They had to figure out what exact angle the mirror needed to be placed in order for the beam to hit the next mirror and so on to get to the end. \r\n Although this was a challenging lessons. Students learned about how when you aim the laser straight at a mirror the laser is reflected back, but when you change the angle of the mirror the laser reflection changes direction. The students had such fun creating and testing their mazes and all students not matter their struggles were able to do this. Thank you for making this lesson possible. They love having a class plant. Hopefully it grows enough for everyone to have a piece. The students love opening the boxes. They say it's like Christmas all over again. Students will be planting seeds and observing them as they grow. Each student will plant them in a cup and will be watered and kept under our new grow lamp. We will be learning the life cycle of plants at the same time. After about a month of growing we will make some more observations and then they can grow some more. They will each be able to take them home at the end of the year. What a huge difference it has made already! The students also like the high top stools the sit higher at the tall table. We were able to set up stations and rotations. The students loved to the magnets the most. They enjoyed the making the battery operated cars. those were the top two things they loved. \r\nStudents were able to get in learning with hands on science. We had a race with the cars, not sure why some went faster then others. We had a great time with all our new science materials. Solar bugs were interesting to work with.
