I would like to implement flexible seating options into my classroom because I believe it will give me and my students the best opportunity to meet their needs as learners. Having a variety of seating options allows students to choose a spot in the classroom that is individualized to their comfort and needs. Research has shown that a student led environment leads to growth and achievement. Flexible seating is a small part of creating a student-led environment. I'm requesting a variety of flexible seating including Wobble Chairs, Bouncy Bands for Chairs and Desks, Donut Balls, Yoga Mats, Wobble Cushions, and Kneeling Knee Pads. Students are responsible for choosing a place in the classroom that maximizes their focus and attention, provides them with enough comfort to complete tasks, and demonstrate the ability to use school tools appropriately. This flexible seating, such as the Bouncy Bands for Chairs and Desks, will also allow students to burn excess energy, which leads to improved behavior. There are also physical benefits such as improved core strength, improved posture and increased blood and oxygen flow. Additionally, students find the variety of seating engaging and fun! It increases motivation and enjoyment in the classroom.
