Most of my students have learning or emotional disabilities; identifying and managing their emotions are critical skills for them to learn in order to make academic progress, build relationships with adults and peers, and grow their self-esteem. \r\nThese beautifully illustrated and thoughtfully written books have become a cornerstone of our social–emotional learning routine and have made a remarkable difference in how my students understand, express, and manage their emotions. Before introducing the A Little Spot series, many of my students struggled to identify and label their feelings. Emotions such as frustration, worry, or excitement often felt too big or confusing for them to describe. The simple, concrete visuals in these books—each feeling represented by a colorful \"spot\"—provided an accessible and engaging way to make abstract emotions more tangible. My students immediately connected with the idea that everyone has a \"spot\" for each feeling, and that these spots can grow or shrink depending on how we manage them. This metaphor has become a shared language in our classroom that helps students talk about their emotions safely and clearly.\r\nDuring small group sessions, we read the books aloud together, pausing to discuss how the characters handle different emotions. The consistent structure and repetitive phrasing help my students anticipate what's coming next, which is especially beneficial for those who thrive on routine and predictability. The stories offer practical, easy-to-remember strategies—such as deep breathing, counting, or using calm-down tools—that my students can use right away. Over time, I have seen them begin to apply these strategies independently in real-life situations.","fullyFundedDate":1755739435778,"projectUrl":"project/a-little-spot-of-books/9391305/","projectTitle":"A Little Spot of...
